top floor before...

kitchen before...

To say that casa3dici needed a bit of work would be an understatement: The top floor (see picture) was a dark and dusty mess, sky showed thru the roof. The kitchen was 19th century (remember those days, kids?) and had a huge, ugly fireplace which also functioned as the central heating system. Doriano renewed the roof and made the roof terrace. Jaap and family spent countless weekends slaving away on the kitchen and other parts of the house. Us, being in Holland, tried to come over as much we could, painted and did menial jobs while trying to combine with some vacation time. A new kitchen was placed, the fireplace removed, a new heating furnace installed. We also created a new, unique staircase. As much we could, the authenticity of the house was preserved by re-using wood and beams from the roof for the new staircase. Christel's brother constructed a lovely cabinet around the new furnace in the kitchen which looks as if it has been there forever. Latest update was the new bathroom sink, which Jaap placed last week. Casa3dici has really turned into a little palace. Hope you like it too when you get a chance to visit. Also check out the original chairs in the house that were refurbished!
